Tenor Morgan Mastrangelo’s performances have been hailed as “Terrific”, (The New York Times) “a standout” , (Parterre Box) and “eye-catching and ear-popping” (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Morgan recently finished their third year in the emerging artist program of the Boston Lyric Opera, covering leading roles as well as making their company debut as Hades in Matthew Aucoin’s Eurydice.
Morgan’s 2025/2026 season included major role debuts in both the US and Europe. At Opéra Royal Versailles, they sang Astolfe In Lully’s Roland with period instrument orchestra i Gemelli in a performance that was “incontestablement la révélation de cette soirée" (BaroquiadeS). They sang the role of Madeline X in Michael Gordon’s opera What to wear (PROTOTYPE Festival), Ascanius/First Sailor in Errolyn Wallen’s Dido’s Ghost, (Emmanuel Music) Hades in Matt Aucoin’s Eurydice (Opera Grand Rapids) and covered the role of Tonio in Boston Lyric Opera’s new translation of The Daughter of the Regiment.
Active on the concert stage, they recently sang the tenor solo in Bach’s BWV 92 with conductor Harry Bicket, as well as the solo cantata for tenor Ich armer Mensch, ich Sündenknecht, both with Bach Vespers New York. They debuted with Boston Baroque as the tenor soloist in Bach’s Coffee Cantata, BWV 211, and have a long-standing relationship with Boston’s Emmanuel Music in their weekly Bach Cantata series, singing the tenor solos in over 15 cantatas with the group.
This summer Morgan joins the Santa Fe Opera’s prestigious Apprentice Singers program before returning to Boston to sing Ruodi in Boston Lyric Opera’s new production of Guillaume Tell. This Winter, they will sing the Tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah at the Duke University Chapel, and will debut the role of Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola with Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.
Morgan earned a Bachelors of Music at Northwestern University in 2020, studying with professor Pamela Hinchman. Following their undergraduate degree, they sang in the young artist programs of Opera Saratoga and Teatro Nuovo before enrolling at the New England Conservatory to study voice with Bradley Williams. They were the recipient of the John Moriarty Presidential Scholarship Fund and earned a Master of Music in 2025, that same year winning 2nd prize in the Concours du chant Baroque Froville, Handel Aria Competition, and American National Oratorio Competition.
Morgan is the founder and director of the period-instrument ensemble Split the Lark.
